Denise C. May is an associate whose practice focuses primarily in governmental liability, municipal law, civil litigation, and civil rights.
Ms. May received her Juris Doctor from Barry University School of Law graduating cum laude in 2013. While there she served as Editor-in-Chief (2012-2013) and Managing Editor (2011-2012) of the Environmental & Earth Law Journal. In 2004, she received her B.S. in Computer Networking Technology at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee.
After a successful career in Information Technology, Ms. May began her legal career with the Office of the State Attorney for the 7th Judicial Circuit where she handled several cases including juvenile, misdemeanor and felony trials. Ms. May joined the City Attorney’s office as Assistant City Attorney for the City of St. Augustine, Florida. In addition to assisting the City Attorney in all assigned matters, Ms. May served as advisor to the Code Enforcement, Adjustments and Appeals Board, the Lincolnville Community Redevelopment Agency and as police advisor to the St. Augustine Police Department. Ms. May prosecuted all municipal code violations as well as representing the City in all Land Use and Environmental Dispute Resolution petitions.
Ms. May was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2013. She is a member of the Jacksonville Bar Association, the St. Johns County Bar Association, Florida Defense Lawyers Association and the Federal Bar Association for the Middle District of Florida. Ms. May also maintains active memberships in the Florida Municipal Attorneys Association as well as the Environmental and Land Use Law and City, County, Local Government Sections of the Florida Bar.
