Montreal to Handle All Fiancé(e) Visa Interviews in Canada

by | Mar 30, 2016 | Immigration, Immigration News

Currently, only two posts in Canada process fiancé(e) visas, Vancouver and Montreal. However, starting April 1, 2016 the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver will no longer process K-1 visas, also known as fiancé(e) visas.  This change applies to all K-1 petitions received at the National Visa Center (NVC) after March 31st.

What does this mean for Canadian residents applying for a K Visa? After USCIS approves your I-129F petition, it is sent to the NVC which will give your case a number.  NVC will also send you a letter with further instructions as to how to apply for your K-1 visa and prepare for your interview.   Your petition will be forwarded to the U.S. Consulate in Montréal where your interview will take place.   Applicants will need to make plans to travel Montreal in order to conduct their interview.

Eligible children of K-1 visa applicants may apply for K-2 visas. Separate applications must be submitted for each K visa applicant, and each K visa applicant must pay the visa application fee.
