by | Nov 9, 2017 | Announcement

With admiration and appreciation for nearly six decades of service, Marks Gray, P.A. announces the retirement of attorney Robert C. Gobelman from the Florida Bar. Mr. Gobelman joined Marks Gray, P.A. in 2011, along with other members of the firm, Gobelman, Love, Wasilenko, and Kendall.

Mr. Gobelman officially retired from practicing law on October 27, 2017. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, Mr. Gobelman has had a distinguished career defending complex litigation in state and federal courts in the areas of business and corporate law, insurance law, and product and professional liability. Throughout his career, he served on many local, regional, and national law committees, including serving as president of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid, Jacksonville Association of Defense Counsel, and Florida Defense Lawyers Association. He also chaired the first Zoning Board instituted after consolidation of Jacksonville and Duval County and was a founding member of the Jacksonville Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).

He is a US Navy veteran of WWII and a US Army veteran of the Korean War. Bob is a graduate of Wittenburg University with honors (1955) and achieved his Doctor of Law at the University of Chicago as a National Honor Scholar (1958). After graduating, he joined Osborne, Copp, Markham and Ehrlich, which merged to form Matthews, Osborne, Ehrlich, McNatt, Gobelman & Cobb.

He went on to start his own firm, Gobelman and Love. In a June 6, 2003 excerpt from the Jax Daily Record, Mr. Gobelman’s wife, Mary Bland Love, shares “Bob Gobelman and I started the firm [Gobelman and Love] April 1, 1988. We had both been partners at Matthews, Osborne, McNatt, Gobelman & Cobb. We told our partners that were forming our own firm.”

She continues, “Our first office was on Adams Street where Jacksonville Legal Aid is now. When we started, we had no carpet, borrowed furniture and Bob had a trial starting that Monday. We got the boxes unpacked on Saturday, drinking beer from Scottie’s to get it done. Our first firm picture is Bob and me toasting our new firm with bottles of beer sitting on boxes.” Their partnership in life still continues spending time with family, reading, enjoying the outdoors and traveling.

Marks Gray President, Frederick H. Kent shared, “After a long and distinguished 59 -year legal career Bob Gobelman officially retires today from the practice of law. Bob has been a stalwart in the Jacksonville legal community and a renowned member of the defense bar in Florida. All of us at Marks Gray want to congratulate Bob on a great career and thank him for his contributions to this firm over the past years. He will certainly be missed by all of us.”
